Fine Bone China - Artist's Ink Well

I have teamed up with the extraordinary ceramicist Wendy Tournay to create these unique ink wells.

Each ink well is handcrafted by Wendy and features a signature 24ct gold drip decoration, inspired by the Japanese philosophy of "Wabi-sabi" — the beauty of things imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete. This philosophy resonates particularly well with an artist's tool, where progress is made through inevitable mistakes, inky splots, and splashes.

Our collaboration combines state-of-the-art 3D printing to create a high-resolution 'master'. Wendy uses this master to create a plaster mould, which she then uses to replicate the design by pouring bone china slip into it.

Each ink well is hand-cast and given a simple thumb impression, allowing a pen to rest on the rim while also making it easier to decant any remaining ink — no more inky desks!
